ใช้ยาฆ่าเชื้อ(ยาปฏิชีวนะ)พร่ำเพรื่อ เสี่ยงต่อการเป็นโรคภูมิและหอบหืดมากขึ้น คณะผู้วิจัยกล่าวกับวารสาร newscientist<\/strong>
\nการใช้ยาฆ่าเชื้อหรือ แอนตี้ไบโอติก antibiotic มาก ๆ ใช่ว่าจะเป็นผลดี พบว่า การใช้ยาฆ่าเชื้อแต่ละครั้ง ได้ทำลายแบคทีเรียดี ๆ ในลำไส้ ที่เป็นตัวย่อยสลายสารต่างๆ พบว่า การที่ขาดความสมดุลนี้ทำให้คนไม่สามารถแยกแยะระหว่างสารก่อภูมิแพ้จริง หรือสารเคมีปกติได้ ทำให้ภูมิไวเกินต่อทุกสารเคมี
\nตลอดช่วง 20 ปีที่ผ่านมา อัตราผู้ป่วยภูมิแพ้และหอบหืดเป็นมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ และหาสาเหตุไม่ง่ายนัก นักวิทยาศาสตร์เชื่อว่า การสร้างบ้านที่ทำให้ปราศจากฝุ่นนี่เอง หรือไม่เช่นนั้นก็อาหารบางอย่างเป็นตัวกระตุ้น ส่วนยาฆ่าเชื้อนั้น เพิ่งมีหลายการศึกษาพบว่ามีความสำคัญทางสถิติ เช่นการศึกษาในเยอรมัน ก่อนการทำลายกำแพงเบอร์ลินที่แยกระหว่างตะวันตกและตะวันออก พบว่า ผู้ที่อยู่ในเยอรมันตะวันออก ที่มีสภาพความเป็นอยู่ด้อยและปราศจากยาฆ่าเชื้อ มีอุบัติการการเป็นหอบหืดน้อยกว่าเยอรมันตะวันตก (ทั้งที่เป็นเยอรมัน และอยู่ติดกันเพียงแต่มีกำแพงกั้น) และเมื่อทำลายกำแพงลง พบว่า อัตราการเป็นหอบหืดและการใช้ยาฆ่าเชื้อสูงขึ้นเรื่อยๆ จนเท่าๆ กัน
\nการทดลองทำโดยปล่อยสปอร์ของเชื้อรา ให้หนูสองกลุ่ม กลุ่มแรกให้ยาฆ่าเชื้อในระยะเวลาหนึ่ง อีกกลุ่มคือหนูปกติ พบว่า ในหนูที่ได้ยาฆ่าเชื้อมาก่อน มีภูมิคุ้มกันตอบสนองสูงมากกว่า และเกิดอาการในปอดมากกว่าอย่างชัดเจนต่อเชื้อราที่ปกติไม่ก่อให้เกิดอาการอะไร
\nคณะผู้วิจัย สันนิษฐานว่า แบคทีเรียในลำไส้ จะเป็นตัวปรับภูมิคุ้มกัน ให้รู้จักแยกแยะสารที่ปกติ และสารที่อันตราย
\nผลจากการวิจัย ชี้แนะให้เราว่า ควรใช้ยาฆ่าเชื้อเท่าที่จำเป็นเท่านั้น และเมื่อรักษาเสร็จ น่าจะหาวิธีที่จะเพิ่มแบคทีเรียปกติให้กลับสู่สภาพเดิม
